[ Storyline ]
A two part series exploring the Danakil Desert in Northern Ethiopia. Investigating the geology of the area and meeting the people and animals who can survive in this extraordinary environment. Kate Humble uncovers the tough life of the Afar women, Steve Leonard learns about the relationship between the Afar and their animals, and earth scientist Dougal Jerram looks at the region's volcanic activity. The series climaxes with the team braving 1200c heat to investigate the inside of Erte Ale, an active volcano.
